This is ‘Jeremy’s Acre’.

Welcome to Jeremy’s Acre which you’ll find it situated on 13 acres in west Wichita. As an oasis unseen by the average passerby, Jeremy has done a wonderful job making the most of his space. In fact, he and his wife have been incredibly intentional about using their acre as an educational canvas to teach their children that it’s possible to sustain themselves by efficiently utilizing what they’ve been given.

So far this year, Jeremy has planted quite a variety of vegetables including broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, 8 varieties of lettuce, spinach, carrots, bulls blood beets, peas, beans, green and yellow zucchini, spaghetti squash, tomatoes, peppers, watermelon, cantaloupe, onions, scallions, horseradish and leeks. Of course, this is what he can remember off the top of his head.

Besides a wonderful crop of edibles, they raise chickens and a horse. In recent years they’ve also tried their hand at guineas, goats and a cow. Talk about someone making the most of their acre, Jeremy Johnson does it right.

As far as failures go, Jeremy has admitted to losing his tomatoes thrice to rabbits and deer. He has since sprayed his crops with Deer Stopper and hasn’t had an issue since. He would probably also admit that raising cattle in a semi-urban setting was probably not the wisest decision, but that’s a different story for a different day.
